Silicon Labs' Z-Wave 800 family of SoCs and modules now available, leading the industry in long-range coverage, power efficiency and security

New Z-Wave 800 family, including ZG23 SoC and ZGM230S module, enables more than 2.4 km of wireless range, 50% lower power consumption, and PSA Level 3 security certification

Dec. 15 - Silicon Labs (NASDAQ: SLAB), a global leader in building a more connected world with secure, intelligent wireless technology, today announced the Z-Wave 800 family of silicon (SoC) and modules for smart home and automation applications using the Z-Wave protocol. The new EFR32ZG23 (ZG23) SoC and ZGM230S module use Silicon Labs' award-winning second-generation wireless SoC platform to provide developers with Z-Wave Mesh mode for mesh networking and Z-Wave Long Range mode for longer range communication, both at frequencies below 1 GHz (sub The Z-Wave 800 Series is the industry's most secure wireless connectivity solution with ultra-low power consumption for advanced, high-performance, battery-powered Internet of Things (IoT) devices; compared to the Z Wave 700 Series, which offers more than 50 percent improved battery life compared to the Z-Wave 700 Series.

Low power consumption, large coverage and security

Silicon Labs' ZG23 wireless SoCs support wireless connectivity transmissions such as Z-Wave long-range mode and mesh networks, both with ultra-low power capabilities, and are the most secure devices available on the market with immediate availability. The single-chip ZG23 features a 78 MHz Arm Cortex-M33 processing core with ultra-low-power transmit and low-power, high-sensitivity receive RF performance with the following data.

Transmit power: 25.4 mA@+14 dBm

Receive power: 4.0 mA@915 MHz, 100 kbps

RF output: +20 dBm

Receive sensitivity: -110 dBm@915 MHz, 100 kbps, O-QPSK

With the guarantee of these parameters performance, it can support IoT end nodes to achieve more than 2.4 km wireless transmission distance.

The ZGM230S module simplifies development and is able to leverage the ultra-low power consumption and excellent RF performance of the ZG23, providing the industry's smallest footprint series of Z-Wave modules with a size of only 6.5mm x 6.5mm. Both solutions can provide up to 10 years of use on coin cell power.

Both solutions also support the Z-Wave 800 standard S2 security feature and Silicon Labs' Secure Vault? security feature, making them the first wireless SoCs and modules in the world to be certified with PSA Level 3 security, the highest security level certification in the industry.

Simplify and Accelerate Development with the Unify SDK

Silicon Labs' Unify SDK controller provides existing protocol-specific conversion capabilities for Z-Wave with its powerful "design once, support all" functionality. Silicon Labs will demonstrate the Unify SDK at CES 2022 as a bridge solution from Z-Wave to Matter.
