Microchip launched the first Trust&Go Wi-Fi 32-bit microcontroller module

Date: 22-10-2020 ClickCount: 414

As the Internet of Things expands from the field of home automation to the field of home control such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), garage doors and electric fans, as well as its accelerated application in the field of building and industrial automation, the market is facing a highly integrated, reliable and safe industry. The need for connectivity in the Internet of Things (IIoT) has increased unprecedentedly. Microchip Technology Inc. today announced the launch of the industry's first Wi-Fi microcontroller module. This module adopts Microchip's Trust&Go technology to realize unique identity verification functions.

Microchip

For developers who design secure industrial IoT systems, Microchip's highly integrated WFI32E01PC is a Wi-Fi microcontroller module pre-configured for the cloud platform and supports the Trust&Go security platform. This module complies with Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA) specifications and has been fully certified by three world-class regulatory agencies, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Industry Canada (IC) and the European Radio Equipment Directive (RED). The Trust&Go platform inside Microchip WFI32E01PC uses secure element technology to pre-configure and set up cloud authentication, simplifying the process of network authentication.

Different from existing equipment, Microchip's new technology includes top-notch PIC32 microcontroller core, rich peripheral support and mature hardware security platform. The new technology not only provides Wi-Fi, but also acts as a powerful single-chip core for the entire industrial Internet system.

Steve Caldwell, vice president of Microchip’s Wireless Solutions Division, said: "With the increase in attacks, traditional software data encryption is no longer sufficient to protect the security of data transmission. Devices require a hard-coded, verifiable and trusted identity to be securely Connected to the cloud. The product launched today is the industry's first secure, pre-configured, Wi-Fi microcontroller, which can be supplied directly from the factory or supplied to customers through a distribution network."

Trust&Go Wi-Fi

Unlike module-based design, discrete design becomes difficult due to the need to develop drivers and circuits for multiple chips, especially when the chips come from different vendors. Generally speaking, it is difficult to obtain system-level support from suppliers because their expertise is limited to the products they produce. And embedded designers need a highly integrated module solution that can provide industrial-grade microcontroller functions, robust Wi-Fi connections, and hardware security and identity verification functions. The WFI32E01PC with an all-in-one module can provide more functions, improve radio frequency (RF) power, and be more secure.

In addition to industrial applications, WFI32E01PC is also suitable for home automation equipment, computing and consumer products.

As a comprehensive system solution provider, Microchip offers a broad product portfolio, pairing the WFI32E01PC module with other Microchip's leading devices to simplify IoT and industrial IoT systems. These leading devices include the KSZ8081 Ethernet PHY series, the MCP2542WFD CAN transceiver series, sensors and wireless technologies including Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE), Long Range (LoRa) and IEEE® 802.15.4. Microchip's system solution approach provides ready-to-use software drivers and hardware reference designs, which can significantly reduce project risks and shorten time to market.

Development Tools Microchip's WFI32E01PC is supported by the PIC32MZW1 Curiosity development board. Microchip also provides a variety of software and hardware support. Software support includes Microchip's MPLAB® X integrated development environment (IDE) and MPLAB Harmony v3 embedded software development framework. Support tools include on-board debugger and in-circuit serial programming header for MPLAB Snap or MPLAB Pickit™ 4, or MPLAB ICD 4 external programmer/debugger. The Curiosity development board has passed the AWS IoT Core platform certification and has been included in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) partner device catalog. This development board includes an out-of-the-box demo, which includes registration and communication with AWS IoT Core, as well as the use of Alexa Voice Service (AVS) to interact with onboard sensors. The AWS IoT Core certification platform includes code examples, WLAN software, and the network protocol stack that can be found in MPLAB Harmony v3.
