As early as the 2019 CES show, AMD entered the Chromebook market for the first time with its low-end dual-core A4 and A6 processors. Although less than two years have passed, the product line has developed, and the company today announced the launch of new Athlon 3000 and Ryzen 3000 chips for updates. These processors will have a C suffix, meaning they are Chrome OS-specific variants of the standard U-series chips.
High-end Chromebooks are becoming more and more popular. Ryzen 3000C is customized to meet this demand, and Athlon 3000C is to meet mid-range needs. Of course, the A series is still aimed at the low end.
The top is Ryzen 7 3700C, it has 4 cores and 8 threads, TDP is 15W, 10 Radeon graphics cores, because it belongs to Ryzen 3000 series, so it is a 12nm chip. There is also a lower clock speed Ryzen 5 3500C with 8 Radeon cores. Ryzen 3 3250C uses a 14nm Zen architecture instead of Zen+.
As for the Athlon that competes with Intel Pentium and Celeron, there is a dual-core four-thread Athlon Gold 3150C with three Radeon cores built in. The Athlon Silver model is dual-core dual-threaded. Both Athlon processors are based on the Zen architecture.
AMD said that in 2020, HP, Asus, and Lenovo will launch 6 new Ryzen Chromebook designs, and their processors will become the protagonists.
