Analog Devices, Inc. announced the launch of the industry's first wireless battery management system (wireless BMS), allowing automakers to more flexibly expand their electric vehicle platform to a variety of models for mass production. As the first wireless battery management system for mass-produced electric vehicles, the wireless BMS will be unveiled for the first time in mass-produced vehicles equipped with the Ultium battery platform of General Motors.
ADI's wireless BMS eliminates the need to use traditional wiring harnesses, saves up to 90% of the wiring harness and up to 15% of the battery pack volume, improves design flexibility and manufacturability, and does not affect the battery life cycle mileage Number and precision.

ADI’s wireless BMS integrates all integrated circuits, hardware and software such as power supply, battery management, radio frequency communication and system functions into a single system-level product. It supports ASIL by using ADI’s proven industry-leading BMS battery cell measurement technology -D security and module-level security. By improving the accuracy during the service life of the vehicle, the wireless BMS system can maximize the energy utilization of a single battery cell, thereby achieving excellent vehicle range, and supporting safe and sustainable cobalt-free battery chemistry, such as lithium iron phosphate (LFP) ).
Patrick Morgan, vice president of ADI's Automotive Division, said: "The shift from wired to wireless connection of battery packs enables automakers to extend their electric vehicle platforms to a variety of models to meet the evolving needs of consumers. Our wireless BMS solution The solution can not only simplify the manufacturing process, but also build new systems based on wireless data, thus accelerating the industry’s progress towards a sustainable future. We are honored to be able to bring this breakthrough system innovation to the market together with General Motors."
Additional system functions enable the battery to measure and report its own performance, improve early fault detection, and optimize battery pack assembly. From battery assembly to storage and transportation, to installation, maintenance and echelon utilization, remote data monitoring can be achieved throughout the battery life cycle.
ADI and GM recently announced a partnership to jointly use wireless BMS technology for GM’s Ultium battery platform. ADI's wireless BMS technology will help extend the Ultium platform to GM's future models, including different sub-brands and model segments (from trucks to performance cars, etc.).
Kent Helfrich, Executive Director of Global Electrification and Battery Systems at General Motors, said: "We are very pleased to work with ADI to jointly use wireless BMS technology for production as part of our Ultium battery platform. ADI's wireless BMS technology can be further advanced For the electrification of our car series, we look forward to continuing to cooperate with ADI to jointly carry out innovations in safety, quality and performance."
