In fact, the W78E052D is an 8-bit microcontroller that can accommodate a wider frequency range at lower power consumption and includes an 8K-byte Flash EPROM that can be programmed via a hardware writer. 256 bytes of RAM Four 8-bit bi-directional (P0, P1, P2, P3) and bit-addressable I/O ports; additional 4-bit I/O port P4; three 16-bit timers/counters; hardware watchdog timer; and a serial port.

These peripherals feature an eight-source, four-level interrupt function. To facilitate programming and verification, the chip's internal Flash EPROM allows program memory to be programmed and read electronically. The W78E052D microcontroller has two software-selectable power-saving modes (idle and power-down).

Idle mode turns off the processor clock, but allows peripherals to continue to operate. Power-down mode minimizes power consumption by stopping the crystal oscillator, while the external clock can be stopped at any time and in any state without affecting the processor.
