New RA2E2 product group based on Arm® Cortex®-M23 core optimized for space-constrained, power-sensitive applications such as IoT terminals, wearables, medical, industrial automation and other consumer electronics and home appliances.
Tokyo, Japan, October 13, 2021 - Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), a global semiconductor solutions provider, today announced the launch of its new RA2E2 product family of 32-bit RA microcontrollers (MCUs), based on the Arm® Cortex®-M23 core, featuring low power consumption and peripherals for IoT endpoint applications. The package includes an ultra-compact 16-pin WLCSP (Wafer Level Chip Scale Package) of 1.87mm x 1.84mm, building a unique performance portfolio. The new 48MHz RA2E2 product group shortens the product design cycle and can be easily upgraded to other RA products.
Designed to meet the needs of IoT end-use applications such as wearables, medical devices, home appliances and industrial automation, the RA2E2 MCUs offer the industry's lowest operating power in their class; consuming only 81uA/MHz in operating mode, only 200nA in software standby current, and fast wake-up. The RA2E2 MCU supports the I3C bus interface and integrates cost-saving peripheral features including on-chip oscillator with +/-1% accuracy, power-on reset, low-voltage detector, EEPROM and temperature sensor.
Renesas RA product family now has over 160 models operating from 48 MHz to 200 MHz. RA MCUs offer ultra-low power consumption, a wide range of communication connectivity options, and excellent security features including Arm TrustZone® technology. Renesas Flexible Configuration Package (FSP) supports all RA products, and FSP features efficient drivers and middleware to simplify the implementation of communication and security features.FSP GUI simplifies and accelerates the development process.FSP enables flexible reuse of existing code resources and easy compatibility and extension with other RA series products. Developers using FSP have access to tools through the rich Arm ecosystem and support from Renesas' extensive partner network to accelerate time to market.
We are seeing an increasing demand for 32-bit MCUs in pin less IoT end-use applications," said Roger Wendelken, senior vice president of Renesas Electronics' IoT and Infrastructure Business Unit. Renesas RA product family now offers a wide range of solutions from 16 to 176 pins in packages with performance from 48 to 200 MHz, all with FSP support, making it easy and fast to switch between products with design IP."
The RA2E2 MCU product group includes nine different products in 16 to 24-pin packages with 16 to 64KB of Flash and 8KB of SRAM; in addition to 2KB of data Flash, a feature not available in other products with fewer pins. The RA2E2 product group is also one of the very few MCUs in its class to offer an I3C bus interface, enabling high-speed communication at 4.6 Mbps - compared to 1 Mbps in competitive products. generator (TRNG) and storage protection unit.
Renesas seamlessly combines the RA2E2 MCUs with analog and power devices to create a "winning product portfolio" that accelerates the design process for a wide range of applications and reduces customer risk. The "portfolio of success" with the RA2E2 MCUs includes DDR5 gaming DIMM solutions, among others. Renesas now has more than 250 "Success Portfolio" products for various applications and end products.
The RA2E2 MCU is now available. To help engineers get started quickly, Renesas also offers the EK-RA2E2 evaluation kit.
